B A C K G R O U N D

The Swane family is very famous for the factory they own in Einbroch (as well as rumors of Committee involvement), as the structure and company being among one of the oldest and most important. Not only that, but the family is extremely large! Their name is not uncommon in the city. The owner of the factory is Reginold Swane, a 68 year old business man. His two other brothers sit as chairmen of the board, and despite having an appearantly cordial relationship with their brother, they two are vying for the position of chief officer of the factory along with Reginold’s children.

One of these brothers, Percival, is especially cunning. Hoping to use the power of numbers to overrule his brother’s family, he married early on in his life to a high-society woman named Ethel and has seven children; Ursula is the youngest of them. From the beginning she showed interest in science and the way that things worked in the world, something that her parents were all too happy to help cultivate. While they didn’t particularly have a lot of time to spend on each child individually, Percy and his wife did have a lot of money to spend on tutors, and eventually schooling. This sort of unified care of their children has led to a tight family bond between the siblings, as well as their parents and they will defend each other no matter what; unlike many other large family, the competition exists, but it is all in good fun rather than being more aggressive.

Their children scattered around Schwarzwald, each pursuing their area of interest. While some of the Swane children moved to Lighthalzen to attend the University there (they lived with their aunt and cousins), two – Ursula and one of her brothers, instead decided to attend the prestigious Sage Academy in Juno, wanting to study the nuances of magic as it related to the world around them. Her brother went a stereotypical route – fire and ice magic theory. However, Ursula found herself in a bit of a quandary; she wanted to study earth magic theory, but also had a distinct love for biology and the physical workings of the monsters of the region. In the end, after much debate and careful planning of her classes, she determined that her proficiency lay in the magic of earth and that was to be her major. However, this isn’t to say that she didn’t fill up her extra credits with Biology courses. She graduated with the top marks of her class.

She decided that she was going to do some practical studies before returning to the academy as a professor; where she enjoys the atmosphere and wishes to remain there and instill in the students her strong sense of academic attentiveness and purpose.

Recently, she has come to Geffen on assignment to teach the students there her native language. While she accepted seemingly out of duty to the Academy and to alliance efforts between her homeland and Rune Midgard, one can't help but think that she might have more dubious intent.

(Ursula has only had one serious relationship in her life, and it ended VERY badly.)

P E R S O N A L I T Y

Just like her looks would imply, Ursula is a serious, stern and businesslike woman. Regardless, she still carries about her an air of femininity, probably due to her upbringing. She refuses to tolerate people who are lazy, unmotivated, or otherwise indolent. She’ll ignore them if she can, and if she is forced into conversation with someone she perceives as such, she’ll speak down on them as though they are a child.

When teaching, she demands the full attention of her class at all times and is a ruthless disciplinarian. She’ll hand out detentions like candy if it’s what she needs to do in order to get control, and will raise her voice (much like a military officer) in order to display her superiority. However, her teaching style is easy to understand and if a student truly is struggling, she will offer to help them – as long as they’re at least trying to pay attention.

Her social life is rather lacking, as she finds herself happier with being alone than in a group
